The Score
RateMyDOT’s gut check on whether a carrier’s worth driving for.
Every carrier gets a Health Score, 0 to 100. Higher is better.
That number comes from the carrier’s public FMCSA record, the same federal filings anyone can pull on SAFER. Every carrier in the country runs through the same process. Nobody here decides what a company scores, and no company can pay to change one.
The formula is ours
How we weigh that record is ours, and we’re not publishing it. Hand a carrier the formula and you’ve handed them a cheat sheet. They’ll chase the number instead of fixing what it measures.
What “provisional” means
Provisional means the carrier’s federal file isn’t full yet, so the score is built on part of the record instead of all of it. means the file’s not full yet. Plain and simple.
New companies and small fleets haven’t built up as much FMCSA paperwork yet. Same as a two-year driver has a thinner work history than a twenty-year vet. Doesn’t mean the rookie’s bad. Just means there’s less on paper to judge them by.
That’s what the Coverage is how much of the record we want on this carrier is actually on file today. number tells you. “Provisional: computed from 55% coverage for this carrier” means the score is built on 55% of the record we want on this carrier. Not a strike against them. Just where the file stands today. More paperwork comes in, coverage climbs, the score sharpens.
Two carriers can show the same score and not stand on the same ground. Higher coverage means more file behind the number. Check the coverage figure, not just the score.
What it isn’t
This is our score, not the government’s. Not an FMCSA safety rating. Not a compliance determination. Not affiliated with FMCSA, and not endorsed by them either.
Don’t take our word for it. Every carrier page links straight to that carrier’s own file on FMCSA SAFER. Go read the federal record yourself.
